Keith Weaver measures the antlers of a buck shot by Mike Stahl and entered in Weaver Archerys Big Buck contest in Middleburg Pennsylvania per boat which works out to 75 per team for the team competition and 25 for the individual big fish pot Weaver said bowfishermen typically dont balk at his stores 25 entry fee per contestant which includes 20 for the five biggest fish stringer team competition and 5 for the heaviest individual fish I dont know why but we cant get guys to spend more than 10 on our buck and doe contests or 5 for the turkey contests but the bowfishing guys arent shy about putting money into the pot Weaver said Prizes And Staffing Stores typically pay back most of the entry fees in cash and prizes after keeping a small portion to cover operating expenses Not all retailers however contact manufacturers to help offset a contests costs through additional prizes Weaver said he contacts some bowfishing companies in spring for prizes but typically backs off in summer when manufacturers are already helping his store offer big sales I dont want to wear out our welcome he explained Brunett said Bay Archery secures prizes from a variety of sources including the stores existing inventory We have a guy dedicated to working on the prizes he said Hes been with us for 15 to 17 years Some manufacturers know about our contests and actually contact us TenPoint for example gives us a crossbow to donate every year Manufacturers reps help too The PSE and Hoyt reps have an allowance for bows they donate and we buy bows from Mathews Every company has a little bit different program so its good to have someone who knows those differences and how to work with everyone And make no mistake Its just as important to realize your customers different needs Things like staffing store hours and registration availability can affect customer satisfaction If someone drives 25 miles to register a deer and finds the store closed they wont be happy They can bring in their deer or turkey anytime were open Weaver said When they sign up we also tell them to let us know if they shoot something before or af
